Special Needs / Educational Support
In Carrigaholt National School we have a Special Education Teacher based in our school to ensure that all pupils are supported to reach their full potential.
We aim to support pupils experiencing learning difficulties through a team approach involving the pupil, class teacher, special education teacher, special needs assistant, parents and other relevant personnel i.e. psychologist, speech therapists etc
Cairdeas
Cairdeas (“Friendship”) is our Autism Class which opened in the school in September 2021. Our classroom can cater for up to 6 pupils who have a diagnosis of autism. The class teacher and support staff in consultation with parents devise an individualized plan for each pupil to effectively attend to our pupils’ needs. Our small class size ensures that there's as much intensive support as possible for pupils to develop and fulfill their IEPs. The children also integrate into mainstream classes to participate in different subject areas and other school activities as appropriate.
We have a wide selection of resources to meet the needs of all pupils in our class including: a well-equipped sensory room, assistive technology, calm spaces, sensory toys and differentiated curriculum resources. We strive to provide an enjoyable primary school education where our pupils can learn to the best of their ability and at their own pace.
